Oracle SE2, Now Available on AWS

Earlier, during the hotter days of summer, Amazon announced that they would now be hosting Oracle’s SE2 database within their cloud offering AWS; giving SE2 end users different options when it comes to cloud usage. This also allows them to upgrade their current SE and SE1 instances in Oracle 12c to SE2 via the AWS management console or API.

With Amazon RDS, the license included service means that you do not need to have a separate SE2 license; this pricing structure consists of software licensing, underlying hardware resources, and Amazon RDS management, thus allowing for a more pay as you go service whilst giving you the option to change your instance type in accordance with your workloads. This new licensing that is available is in addition to Amazons current ‘Bring your own’ licensing model for SE2.

High Availability using Multi-AZ, database storage sizes up to 6TB, storage performance with up to 30,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS), and storage encryption using keys you manage through AWS Key Management Service; these are a few of the features that are available to Amazon RDS users for SE2, however these are only available for users who are on SE2 version 12.1.0.2.v2 or higher.

We can help you modify from SE or SE1 to SE2 within AWS. There is a certain level of testing and expertise needed to here and our AWS database management team will be able to guide you through the process. Get in touch and we will show you how.
