Job Description

dsp offers award winning IT Consultancy and Database Managed Services for Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and Cloud, including Azure, AWS and Oracle Cloud.

Were are hiring a Microsoft Data and BI Consultant to support the growth of our Microsoft Practice.

The successful hire will work with our Sales function to qualify opportunities and build successful propositions as well as work with internal / external resources to manage and deliver customer projects.

Mandatory Requirements

Basingstoke based but needs own transport to support client site visits

Customer facing – requirements gathering / Business Analysis

Role & Responsibilities

Managed Services Support:

  • Maintain support for Managed Clients, responding to tickets and support functions.
  • Assist with support issues as and when required via the Service Desk
  • Assist with covering in hours support between 08:30 and 18:00 as needed
  • Assist customers with support on the Microsoft BI stack

o  SSRS, SSIS, SSAS

o  Azure including; Data Warehouse, Data Bricks, Power BI

  • Assist customers with support on the Microsoft DB stack
  • Assist customer in development projects such as performance / query rewrites, SQL    procedure development and BI routines / reporting requirements

Consultancy: 

  • Represent dsp onsite at customers as the advisor, architect and implementer
  • Work with customers and delivery partners to help define and deliver high impact solutions based on Microsoft’s BI & SQL Server platforms.
  • Engage in BI / database projects ranging from upgrades to performance tuning and migration to Azure, disaster recovery and high availability
  • Proactively work with the sales team and provide pre-sales

  • Successful project delivery
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Percentage of time billed to projects or managed services

Essential Experience

  • Extensive experience with the Microsoft BI stack, mainly SSRS, SSIS, SSAS and Power BI. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in most of areas above.
  • SQL Server Database experience, with involvement in some or all of the following areas: operation and troubleshooting, system architecture, design and implementation
  • Consulting/services experience would be advantageous – i.e. the direct provision of technical thought leadership and services to external teams, stakeholders or customers

Primary Technical Skills – Business Intelligence

The ideal candidate will have gained the following skills over 5 years:

  •  5+ Years’ experience of SQL Server 2008 R2 upwards (including SSMS, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS).
  • Exposure to Azure data projects such as: ADW, Big Data, AI and Machine learning projects
  • Large-scale data manipulation and Extract Transform and Load (ETL) using SQL Server Integration Services, Transact-SQL code and other techniques
  • Extensive report creation, amendment and debugging experience using either SQL Server Reporting Services, this includes issues with the SSRS engine or PowerBI
  •  OLAP cube architecture, design and implementation using SQL Server Analysis Services
  • Familiarity with SQL Server development tools (Management Studio and Business Intelligence Development Studio)
  • A working knowledge of one or more .NET development languages and associated database APIs, not essential.
  • SQL Server Relational Database Engine Database administration from SQL 2000 to 2016
  • Disaster recovery including log shipping, Mirroring and availability groups would be advantageous
  • Database & Application performance tuning

Secondary Technical Skills – DBA

The ideal candidate will have gained the following skills over 1-5 years:

  • The ideal candidate will have gained the following skills over 1-5 years:
  • SQL Server Relational Database Engine Database administration from SQL 2000 to 2016
  • Disaster recovery including log shipping, Mirroring and availability groups would be advantageous
  • Architecture, design and implementation of highly-available database solutions (OLTP)
  • Database & Application performance tuning
  • Understanding and application of database design techniques
  • Understanding of Windows and core services like Active Directory, DNS
  • Appreciation for Hardware components
