Oracle Forms and Reports
End of Support and Migration Guide

Understanding Oracle Forms and Reports support timelines is critical for maintaining security, compliance, and long-term viability. This guide explains the different tiers of support, highlights the risks of relying on unsupported versions, and helps you plan whether to upgrade or migrate to modern alternatives like Oracle APEX with confidence.

Oracle APEX Services

Introduction

Many organisations still rely on Oracle Forms and Reports for business-critical applications. However, support coverage for Forms is complex, with multiple tiers and limited long-term options that can leave systems exposed if not carefully managed.

This guide outlines Oracle Forms support timelines and explains why many organisations are now considering migrating to Oracle APEX.

At DSP, we often find that customers are running unsupported Forms versions, leaving them exposed to risk. In many cases, upgrading can be a lengthy process, so deciding whether to upgrade or migrate becomes a strategic choice, one that should be made with a clear understanding of Oracle’s support policies.

Oracle Forms Support Dates

Oracle Forms has three tiers of support:

  • Premier Support – Provides full maintenance and support for 5 years.
  • Extended Support – Provides extended maintenance and support for an additional fee, typically extending support by 3 years beyond Premier.
  • Sustaining Support – Indefinite but limited. Provides only technical support with no new updates, fixes, or patches, regardless of their criticality.

Below is a table showing the support dates for Oracle Forms:

Forms Release

General Availability Date

Premier Support Ends

Extended Support Ends

Sustaining Support Ends

14.1* Dec-24 Dec-29 Dec-32 Indefinite
12.2* Oct-15-Apr-16 Dec-26 Dec-27 Indefinite
12.1* Dec-11-Feb-15 Dec-17 Dec-19 Indefinite
11.2 Oct-11 Dec-16 Dec-18 Indefinite
11.1 Jun-09 Jun-14 Dec-17 Indefinite

Currently, only two versions of Oracle Forms remain within Premier Support. If you previously purchased Extended Support on any earlier versions, that has now expired, leaving only Sustaining Support, which has no forthcoming updates, fixes, or patches.

This often makes upgrading Oracle Forms a much more complex and costly exercise compared to migrating to Oracle APEX, where upgrades are faster, simpler, and fully backwards compatible.

Conclusion

If you are still running Oracle Forms, it’s vital that you be aware of the risks associated with Sustaining Support. Without access to updates or security fixes, your applications may become increasingly vulnerable.

At DSP, we help organisations assess their current Oracle Forms estates and decide whether an upgrade or migration to Oracle APEX is the right choice. Our consultants have deep expertise in both technologies, ensuring you have a trusted partner to guide your next steps.
