Enhancing Finance Reporting with Power BI for a Global Film Distribution Company

The customer had an existing finance reporting platform with Power BI reports covering General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), and Accounts Receivable (AR). However, the reports did not fully meet the needs of business stakeholders.

Users found the dashboards difficult to navigate, lacked clear and actionable insights, and were unable to analyse the data effectively. As a result, report adoption was low, and stakeholders continued to rely on manual analysis to understand financial performance.

DSP supported the film company by enhancing and redesigning their existing Power BI finance reports, focusing on usability, clarity, and alignment with business requirements.

We worked closely with stakeholders to understand reporting needs and improve the effectiveness of dashboards built on existing SQL data and analytical cubes sourced from Oracle ERP.

Our approach included:

• Requirement Gathering: We collaborated with the customer's team to review existing reports, identify gaps, and capture detailed reporting requirements aligned with GL, AP, and AR processes.
  
  

• Report Redesign and Enhancement: Power BI dashboards were redesigned to improve layout, navigation, and visual clarity. Interactive elements such as filters, drilldowns, and summary views were introduced to support more effective financial analysis.
  
  

• Security Validation: Existing Row-Level Security (RLS) was reviewed and refined to ensure accurate regional data access, allowing users to view only the data relevant to their region while maintaining data integrity.
  
  

• Stakeholder Engagement: Regular review sessions and demonstrations were conducted to gather feedback, enabling iterative enhancements and ensuring the final reports met evolving business expectations.
