Oracle Database 12.1 End of Support

Oracle Database 12.1 End of Support came into effect at the end of July 2022, affecting users of Oracle Enterprise Edition 12.1 and Standard Edition 2 12.1. Extended Support has ceased to operate, and users will enter Sustaining Support meaning they will no longer receive security patch updates.

For organisations that use 12.1 there are several options available to move to a more secure database including upgrading to later versions or migrating to the cloud.

Remain on Oracle Database 12.1

This isn't something we recommend. Keeping your business-critical infrastructure on an unsupported database will mean you’re likely to fail to meet regulatory compliance requirements and leaves you vulnerable to data breaches and cyber attacks.

Upgrade to Oracle Database 19c

If you want to remain on-premise, migrating to Oracle Database 19c is the latest 'long-term release' version, supported until 2027. It comes with Multitenant included as standard and offers a modern, secure and performative database infrastructure.

Upgrade to Oracle Database 21c

This is the latest version of Oracle's on-premise database. It's an 'innovation release' - a beta version of a future long-term release. A good option for those keen to get a jump-start on cutting-edge technologies and plan to move to Oracle Database 23c in 2023.
