What are you options?

Remain on SQL Server 2012

While it may mean you fail to meet regulatory requirements, a lot of organisations will choose this option. If this is something you're considering, it's essential to bring in a specialised provider to help you securely manage your database.

Extended Security Updates

Microsoft are offing up to 3 years of extended security updates (ESU) to SQL Server 2012 customers. This is information only and not support. It’s only appropriate for customers who are moving away from SQL Server 2012, but won’t have achieved this by the 12th July deadline.

Upgrade to SQL Server 2019

If you want to remain in an on-premise set up, migrating to SQL Server 2019 will provide you with a more modern and versatile database infrastructure than the 2012 version. And, of course it is fully supported with an extended end date of January 2030.

Migration to Azure SQL

Migrating or refactoring your systems to use either Azure SQL or Azure SQL Managed Instances will mean you never need to worry about EOS again as Microsoft will always keep those updated with the newest features and security fixes.

Migration to Azure

For those who want to move to cloud, Microsoft are offering Extended Security Updates for free in tandem with a move to Azure. SQL Server 2012 customers can also use existing on-premise licenses in combination with a move to Azure Hybrid Benefit at no extra cost.
