Overview

A manufacturing company Nuaire Ltd., based in South Wales, produces practically all of its products on-site—from tiny bathroom fans to massive air handling units—on-site. Nuaire, a manufacturer of fans known for its high quality, was the first in the UK to acquire the ISO9001 standard. Due to their facilities' ambitious goals to advance green manufacturing processes, they operate with little influence on the environment. The on-the-ground and back-office personnel at Nuaire use their technological know-how to address ventilation issues for their customers across the country.

This case study reveals a project run by DSP that is centred on Nuaire's current Oracle database estate. For the new database environment to be completely compliant with Oracle's most recent set of recommendations, the project suggests a new platform to host it on.

The Challenge

Nuaire's current support team lacks the necessary expertise in Oracle databases. Additionally, the bare metal servers that host the development and production of these databases are now five years old and require complete replacement.

The Solution

This project involved the following key tasks:

  • Investigate and document the existing Oracle estate including its architecture.
  • Propose a new hardware platform to utilize the three geographical sites available to Nauire. These are Caerphilly A, Caerphilly B and the third site located at Bedwas.
  • Propose a new Oracle estate that utilises Oracle 19c Standard Edition with a full DR configuration to allow for complete business continuity.
  • Upgrade & migrate the existing Oracle databases to the new platform.

DSP recommended the use and deployment of two new Oracle Data Appliance server models X9-2L to be deployed in the main primary and the standby sites. The Dbvisit standby software layer will be implemented across both ODA servers and provides for the full DR functionality between the two sites. This arrangement will also provide the support team for Nuarie’s estate to proactively manage and administer the Oracle databases located at both the primary and the standby servers.

The Result

The new configuration caters for the current workload on the databases including any future growth. The DSP managed services team will manage and administer the new environment on a 24/7 basis in a proactive fashion which will ensure stability and fully optimised infrastructure.

The migration and upgrade to a new Oracle Database meant that Nuaire now has increased high availability with more security features which ensures protection for their mission-critical ERP product.
